Maintaining a home deli was crucial for me on my weight loss journey. Before, I would reach for something quick that involved a microwave (which I no longer own btw). Having some base deli ingredients levels up my lunch game without sacrificing the quality of food that I need to stay on track. This turkey & pastrami sandwich on a bolillo roll was a perfect example, and I wanted to share it with you.

Home deli levels up my lunch.
This lunch balances out at approximately 700 Calories, and those Calories are very well spent. You get some immediate mid-day energy from the bread and a sustained energy and feeling of fullness from the protein in the deli meats. The cheese gives you some fats for sustained energy into the evening. The clementine and carrots offer some additional nutrients and sugars your body needs.

700 very well spent Calories.
The ingredients
One thing about deli sandwiches is that it is really easy to estimate calories. Every ingredient can be considered to be approximately 100 Calories except for the bread loaf.
- One bolillo roll (~200 Cal)
- One serving beef pastrami (~100 Cal)
- One serving honey smoked turkey (~100 Cal)
- Two slices of white American cheese (~200 Cal)
- Drizzle of ranch dressing (~40 to 75 Cal)
I could have brought the Calories down further by removing some of the bread and using only one slice of cheese instead of two. But I was hungry this time, so I went for it.
This lunch was great. It gave me what I needed nutritionally, it was delicious, and best of all, I didn’t have to feel guilty eating it!
