Homemade cheeseburger with potato salad.

A staple of American cuisine, the cheeseburger is a special breed of meal. A terrific balance of a beef patty with a salad on top slathered with cheese between two pieces of bread. What more can you ask for?

Beef patty, salad on top, slap between bread. Cheese please.

I made this burger, and it was delicious. Cooking at home allows me to eat great food while maintaining my weight. If I ate this out somewhere, it probably would have been double if not triple the calories. Reason being most restaurants rely on fat and lard to make their meals tasty. At home, I can rely on fresh ingredients and seasoning, cutting the fat back considerably.

I started by using 90% lean ground beef and I added diced onions, parsley, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mixed all that together and threw the beef patties on the grill.

When the burgers were almost done, I melted some cheese on top and then slapped that between two pieces of bread. I added some artisan spring lettuce mix and a fat slice of tomato. Coupled with a potato salad on the side and this was a perfect summer lunch!
